AACR Gertrude B. Elion Cancer Research Award |
The AACR Gertrude B. Elion Cancer Research Award is open to tenure-track scientists at the level of assistant professor who are in the first five years of a faculty appointment (at the start of the grant term).
a. Areas of study: Proposed research projects may focus on research in cancer etiology, diagnosis, treatment, or prevention (basic, translational, or clinical cancer research).
b. Elegibility: Applicants must:
- Have a medical and/or doctoral degree (including Ph.D., M.D., D.O., D.C., N.D., D.D.S., D.V.M., Sc.D., D.N.S., Pharm.D., or equivalent) in a related field and not currently be a candidate for a further doctoral or professional degree.
- Hold a tenure-track full-time faculty position with the title of instructor, research assistant professor, assistant professor, or an equivalent full-time faculty position.
- Have held a full-time faculty position or the equivalent for no more than 5 years; and,
- Work at an academic, medical, or research institution anywhere in the world.
AACR membership is required. Nonmembers interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR Active membership by Wednesday, February 12, 2014.
c. Award amount: The award provides a one-year grant of $75,000 for expenses related to the research project, which may include salary and benefits of the grant recipient, postdoctoral or clinical research fellows, graduate students, and/or research assistants, research/laboratory supplies, equipment, travel, publication charges for manuscripts that pertain directly to the funded project and other research expenses.
It is anticipated that one award will be funded.
The recipient of the 2014 award is required to give a presentation of his/her research in a minisymposium at the AACR Annual Meeting 2015. (Travel support will be provided, separate from this grant, for the grant recipient to attend the 2015 meeting.)
