Postdoctoral Fellowship Grants. Basic/Translational and Clinical Research |
Susan G. Komen launches its Postdoctoral Fellowship Grants, 2016-2017
Object: to attract and preserve today’s young scientists - under the guidance of a mentor - and clinicians who will fuel the future and become the next generation of leaders in the field of breast cancer research.
Types of Grants:
1.- Basic/Translational:
- Object: provide support for hypothesis-driven research projects that are laboratory-or field-based and do not meet Komen’s definition of clinical research.
- Scope: A project involving clinical trial samples for a study in conjunction with a clinician that does not involve the Applicant having direct patient interaction would be appropriate for this area.
- Out of scope: Studies focusing on quality of life or survivorship issues.
2.- Clinical:
- Object: provide support for either M.D. or Ph.D. Applicants for hypothesis driven, patient-oriented research for which an investigator directly interacts with human subjects/patients.
- Scope: Project conducted in conjunction with laboratory-based research, as appropriate (e.g.: therapeutic interventions or clinical trials).
- Out of scope: Clinical trials require that all subjects provide informed consent. If a project is not consenting patients, but rather using patient samples collected previously, then it is not considered a clinical trial.
