The molecular pathology group at Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) has been the European group with more communications (9) in the USCAP (United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology) congress that took place a few days ago in Vancouver, Canada. The communications have been focused, between other topics, on several types of cancer and on the usefulness of the biomarkers EGFR and ALK on lung. It's important the conclusion that the citoqueratina 19 in biopsy ganglionar indicates metastasis.
Dr. Santiago Ramon y Cajal, head of the group, has led the edition of the book 'Pathological Anatomy in Oncology', that reviews the areas of the speciality in independent chapters in which are checked the most important parameters for its diagnosis and correct classification. In addition, there is an update in markers in each of the topics: lung, digestive tract, nervous system, soft parts and breast, between others.
According to Dr. Ramon y Cajal, "the speciality trends to the accomplishment of sequence studies of multiple genes -genome- in many tumors to have more individualized profiles".
