Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron is an institution that leads health system in clinical trials field. Its number of execution proposals of clinical trials protocols, mostly promoted by pharmaceutical industry, is one of the highest in Spain. CREC of Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron was established on the 26th of October 1992 (Order of Departament de Sanitat i Seguretat Social 26.10.1992) to obey theLaw 25/1990 of 20th of December, which establishes the need that all clinical trials projects with drugs and health products must have the approval of Comitè Ètic d’Investigació Clínica, which must be accredited by a relevant authority. In Catalunya this authority is the Departament de Sanitat i Seguretat Social de la Generalitat de Catalunya. The ethical and methodological assessment of clinical trials protocols and research projects must be carried out by the Clinical Research Ethics Committee (CREC) of the Hospital. The Spanish and European legislation on clinical trials requires a great development of faculties and functions of CREC, above all regarding multicenter trials. As well, legislation development requires that post-authorization observational studies must be assessed by CREC. The main objective of CREC of Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron is to contribute to improve quality, management and relevance of clinical trials that aim to develop our environment. This position is a clear desire to strengthen the position of the Hospital and its CREC, not only to be more competitive in market of research, but to develop and to exert leadership in promoting clinically-oriented research. | |||||||
